Probably not, knowing MS's love of "Genuine Advantage"

Stick with Firefox

no genuine advantage for the download of IE. It's a free download, you don't have to own windows to down it. Same with windows media player.

|edit| my mistake, looks like it does use genuine advantage. winXP && win Server 2003 only |edit|

Ok anyone thinking Firefox rip-off? "Add-ons" That is what Firefox calls it! I know Microsoft can think of at least one other word than add-ons.

FireFox 2.0 is due soon (its on RC3 at the mo) and I'm waiting for that - IE can get bent.

I don't see the "ripping off" which you guys are talking about. Sorry I just don't. Just throw Opera or any other new browser into the mix and it's clear that it's just natural progression.

Anywho, here's another vote for Firefox 2.0!

not necessarily that it's a ripoff, but microsoft fell way behind with its web browser and ended up (intentionally or not) copying off others.

I agree they have copied. But imagine if it didn't have all those features, they are standard now. It's like saying IDE's with code folding ripped off the first IDE with code folding and so no new IDE should have code folding. Or syntax highlighting, again it's a natural progression of what are now standard and expected features.

Is the proper IE7 any faster then the Beta? That was my main problem with it. That and it often got really choppy when handling 20+ windows. On the same laptop FireFox didn't have any.

IE6 had one thing over all browsers of the time, performance. I have never used a modern browser which has been so fast performance wise. I loved it, and being noticably faster (although only noticably) then Firefox was the main thing that stopped me from changing. However there are standard features I would expect from IE (and any other browser) if I ever went back.

DiablosDevil,

Have you tried Opera? It's very light-weight, very standards compliant, and supposedly even more secure than any other browser, although I'm not too sure if you can get as many (or even any), adblocking-extensions and javascript disablers.

Opera is very fast (faster than IE, I'd say). My only critisisms are that sometimes it messes up scrolling boxes, like code boxes here, and somtimes web-forms are ugly. Other than that, it's a very nice browser.

FF is fast enough on my new pc, but on my older one Opera was always slower then FF, which were both slower the IE 6. I'm also happy with FF.
