MacOS Art Tools Recommendations

Since my switch to Mac, I've been using Pixelmator Pro for my art, but in recent updates, things are definitely moving towards the photography realm much more than pixels. It's a sad and somewhat rapid transition that's somewhat reminiscent of what happened to PaintShop Pro back in the day.
Loads of new functionality for anyone trying to fix their holiday snaps, but absolutely nothing helpful for trying to move sprites around on a spritesheet.

in recent weeks I've started to notice the rectangle-select tool has started getting a bit "fuzzy" and Anti-Alias'y.. Sometimes if I grab the very tip of a pixel, it'll only "drag" part of the colour of that pixel, leaving the other half of the colour behind.
It's getting fucking annoying, I'll be honest..

I do love the tool, and if it WORKED right, it'd be fine, but with every passing update it's becoming less and less useful to me.

So, I guess I'm looking for a new art tool on the Mac.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Have you tried aseprite?

Not free but cheap. I use it occasionally and it seems really good.

Gave it a go. Quite happy with that one, yeah.
Grabbed the Trial and gave it an hour or so before opting to go ahead and grab it.
I'll have to give it a few days to be sure, but .. Looking good to me!

Aseprite is very good. I even had an app that allowed me to use it on the ipad.

I have not been following aseprites news. But they were working on a tile editing and drawing system.

Yeah, I've no need for a tilemap editor. .. I honestly can't remember the last time I created a tilemap by hand!
Unless you count JNKPlat levels.. But that's a "Level" editor, not a tilemap

It usually was quite a challenge making a tile repeat itself from all sides. There was a tile editor like that in a humble bundle a few years ago. It was flash based back then. That had this same feature. Pyxel edit it is called. They have a mac version too. It is not that expensive either and quite good. 9 bucks.

E: you edit 1 tile and each tile on the map with the same id updates with the changes.
