I have been using the release candidate of Windows 7 ever since it was released to the public, but now I have to buy a copy because it has expired, and I am too used to using Win7 to go back to Vista Home Premium. Is there any real benefit of getting the professional version upgrade instead of home premium upgrade? I know the ultimate version would be a waste of money, just trying to decide which version to buy, don't want to spend the extra $80 if I don't have to.

You can see here an approximate list of the differences. As a Windows 7 Professional user I have to say I have used none of the features listed there for it, but I do like the idea of using XP mode in the future.

I've had Home and haven't had any issues. No complaints, except for trying to download VirtualPc (see blog)

I'd go with that.

Just make sure you get your copy from eBay.

If you look around a bit, I'll bet you anything that you'll be able to get it for much less.

119 USD

119 USD

9,95 USD

107 USD

117 USD

78 USD

On Amazon.com, if you search, the cheapest you'll find is from around 139 USD for a non-upgrade version...

Just because it's on "eBay" doesn't mean it's legal.
Same goes for Amazon, nowadays.

Always buy from a reputable place. It's better to be safe than have Windows crap out on you, from a dodgy license.

A mate of mine who worked at Microsoft said he knew people there who investigate EBay Windows sallers because they don't know how the sellers are able to sell the copies at such a low cost. i.e. they are probably not legit.

Amazon is not so bad, it's better regulated and you don't have to buy from the dodgy sellers.

If I were buying Windows 7, I'd go for this one because it's cheap and looks pretty damn legit.

As for how the sellers are able to sell so cheaply, I'm thinking it could be retail store workers or even owners who are able to buy bundles of software cheaper (note: bundles, many copies at once) because of where they work.
Also, electronical articles and software is generally cheaper in the US.

That is a really good price for Windows 7 Ultimate, but I am wanting the 64bit version. The local Walmart has the upgrade edition of Windows 7 Home Premium that includes both the 32bit and 64bit version for $117. The upgrade edition would be fine with me because it's easy to install as a clean install, and I have both the retail versions of XP Home and Pro (my copy of Vista is the upgrade edition so I don't know if that qualifies or not), so it would be legit.
