Socoder -> On Topic -> How Are You?

With all this chaotic political shit, even I, Mr Forever Eerily Cheery, managed to get a little bit depressed over the past few weeks.

I wonder how others, here, might be coping?
It's certainly been a low point, and I'm finding myself having to basically ignore half the stuff on Facebook and Twitter, just to stay cheery.

But how are you? How's life treating you? What's going on in your life?

I am usually not bothered by things around me. One thing though is that the old ipad is starting to crash a lot. A new replacement would cost me 450 Euro or so. That is a lot for me.Then my gaming laptop is 3+ years old so I might need to buy a replacement soon if it dies. ($$)

I have not been programming for a while. Not been doing anything productive at all lately ! On my first android phone I tested a game I made( cromdesi.home.xs4all.nl/html5/roguelikefogmap/MonkeyGame.html ) and I noticed I need to learn how to make monkey use the full screen in html5 mode.

I started drinking alcohol less. I sleep a lot better I noticed so I think I will keep doing that.

I bought a new base laptop and been having fun with that and wil have fun with that for a long time. It is a faster model (a8 1tb 8 gb) and a real difference with the old low spec model I had. I have been playing skyrim on it and will have some fun with that. I might install elder scrolls online on it so I can have fun with that.

This year is not going as planned though. I wanted to spend time practising voice acting and sound alike singing/rapping and do pixel art and programming but have spend no time on it at all.

I am turning 41 this month. Closer to death again! (scienctist, hurry up with that never die thing!)

Things are crazy everywhere not just in US and UK. I lost many months last year caught up in following the news. I have now unfollowed people in twitter who bring up current news and politics.
I quit my job 2 years ago to make games but not done anything in that direction yet. I had bought so many game engines and tools in the past 2 years that I was totally confused to start anything.
This year I decided to focus on one thing at a time so trying to learn Monkey-X.
Yesterday read the book Spelunky (Boss Fight Books Book 11) by Derek Yu, it is very good.

Choosing the right language is one of the hardest parts. You don't want to have half a project then find a roadblock because the language doesn't support X/Y feature!
Maybe make a list of everything you'll need, and double check Monkey can do it, before you begin.

But good luck

Thanks.
There are so many decisions to be made like 2d/3d, PC/Mobile, Pixel Art/SVG.
I'll start somewhere and see where it takes me instead of trying to decide on the choices.

Im good... Totally busy at work mind, working at the Bullring in Birmingham... Passed fortnight weve chucked loads of work in, enough so, we were given the day off today with pay! \o/ yay

And Ive done nowt but nap today myself... I was bloody shattered!

Erm, not really much excitement to report, apart from getting a new phone, an Acer liquid primo whatsit thing, nice phone actually, and yeah, it's Windows, but apps wise, I dont use much in that regard, just standard ones.

And, well, thats about it from me!

Permament knackeredness has been countered by giving up on the alcohol - now I'm just knackered 60 percent of the time

Got myself a folding bike in the sale at Halfords, its totally changed my lunch breaks which is sweet.

Got in a good 4 hours coding in Monkey HTML5 style all before 8am this morning, I don't think that was what the sabbath was meant for.

This month, I shall mainly be looking forward to a few days off next week with the kids during their half term break.

Happy coding!

Hows this for one... So this morning... I decided to do a spring clean, got rid of all the clothes I dont wear anymore, shredded shite loads of paperwork I dont need, including divorce shite and stuff when me and the ex were together... And laundry... Flying!!!

So, all done, two Manchester games on, I decided to put a bet on, just a daft fiver on both games to draw... Like a million to one, but results were funny yesterday so thought why not...

Anyway, placed the bet, and a window popped up saying I had a free £3 worth of spins on the slots as a bonus.

Rainbow Riches on... 50p spins... Managed to get it up to £100... Thought "Wahooooo" , popped into the banking section, see if I could withdraw it, nope... Due to the way bonuses work, you've got to bet so much to withdraw, so I had a balance of £100, and couldnt cash it in, so I went on the blackjack, went a little daft, £25 hands, after a bit, managed to crank that up to £550... Checked again... And...

I could withdraw!!! \o/

£550 from a free £3 bonus

Buzzing!!!

I've withdrawn it like, will take 3 days to get into my account, but, what a slice of bloody luck eh... Still cannot believe it!

Giddy up

I wish alcohol was the reason for my knackeredness; I haven't had a drop in years.

...And drinks on Dabz!!! I'll have a nice hot cup of tea

Suffering from severe depression right now.
Might be a good thing, as that tends to be when I'm at my most creative.
Can't stop hoping, under a thin layer of sarcasm (NOTE: not that I don't think he'd be capable), that Trump will buttfuck the world as we know it, so I won't have to bother with ending my miserable existence.

I feel your pain Mats, I've been to 'n' fro with the psychiatrist like a yo-yo over the past few months. Problem with anxiety and depression is people think it's all bullshit because they can't see it.

I'm a somewhat psychoticly deranged cheery person, who rarely feels depressed, and is usually ok with things.
But, these past few months, with Brexit and Trump, have been absolutely brutal, even for me.
I can only imagine the sorts of struggles that you guys are having.

I hope you can all stay as cheery as possible. I know it's hard, but we're all here for you.
If you feel the need to vent, try to stick to this, the cheery thread, or the political thread, so I can contain all the noise

..but know that you're not alone, in this.
