So.. Apple's ditching Intel, making MacOS more iOS like, and is going to be using their own Ax processors in the Mac.. hmmm..

Kinda.. maybe.. but also maybe not "so" much.

The new Apple-Silicon Macs have a ton of emulation in them, and XCode will now apparently compile double-apps that run happily on both Intel and Ax.
It does seem like the past decade of iPad has helped immensely in this whole decision.
They showed off Microsoft Office and Adobe SuiteOfSubscribe running on it, already, which is fairly good, I suppose.. .. maybe..

.. of course, Apple being Apple will probably already have a Switch-off date in mind, where they (for no good, viable reason) randomly decide to kill off all Intel-based apps from the App Store, just like they've done with all my 32bit games on iOS, and everything that I haven't updated every other pissing day.
Grumble grumble.

They will use this to "clear house"... I have no doubt about it.

Also. It likely means I can't upgrade my MacMini and expect to continue to use Windows on it.. hmmm...

If anything, though..
It's LESS fragmentation.
Everything will end up being iOS.

Isn't this the exact opposite of what happened in 2006 with PowerPC

I don't think Apple ever expected "their own chipset" to become as powerful as it has. It seems pretty logical to base an actual computer around the power that an iPad has.

I'm not sure people are happy that the Mac more or less has to die, to allow that to happen.
But you can't deny how powerful iPhings have gotten.
It was inevitable, really.
And Apple have done this "big shift" before. They don't give a shit about losing old software!!! "Move on" seems to be Apple's motto, nowadays.
