Clickteam Fusion build 294 is out

For anyone interested in Fusion, there is a major new build out in beta that adds some important and useful features.

If you are not sure what Fusion is, you may have heard one of its previous titles, it has been known as Klik&Play, The Games Factory, Click&Create and Multimedia Fusion in the past. I've been using it since the 90's and it is a lot of fun to build things with. It uses a visual way of working which can be strange for traditional programmers who code in text, but if you get it, it is a productive way to create more or less any 2D game or thing.

In this build are some big features and one in particular I have been pestering them for since about 1999 (no kidding). They've finally put in template frames. This is where you can build a game engine (for example) in one frame, a frame being a level or workspace, and you can then tell other frames to include it as a template. At runtime the game frame and the template frame are combined. The reason this is a big deal is it makes it so much easier to make a game that spans screens or levels. You code your engine in the template frame and when you need to make changes you just have that one place to do it in.

There were other ways to do this, but how Fusion is designed this is how it should have been done all those years ago.

This build has loads of other new features that are pretty impressive and will help a Fusion developer work better in the software and what they make with it.

The change log can be found here for those that like to read the details: www.clickteam.com/webftp/files/mmf2/ChangeLogs/294.1.txt and the video above shows the big stuff.

Yea, good to see it is still getting propper support. World has changed but a lot of people still use it. I guess it helps having some big indie games on Steam made with it, but as I mention above it is a lot of fun to play with.
