spinal
I thought it would be a good idea for people to share the reasons behind their screen names. Even if it's just a word you made up.

I'll go first I guess.

I was originally spinal_cord but later shortened it to spinal. However I did originally want to be just spinal when I got my first yahoo mail account way back in 1993 I think, but there was one already, so I became spinal_cord. The name came from the skeleton from Killer Instinct, who was called Spinal. Now and then, when I sign up to a forum and they already have a spinal, then I will use spinal_cord and in the rare case there are already members called both of these names, like youtube for example, you might just find me using the name billandtedfan which needs no explaining. So there you go, me.

cermit
My brother suggested "kermit" a few years back when i went to my first LAN. Somehow i spelled it "cermit" and there you have it.

I can't remember the other nicks i've used during this time, cermit always seemed ok or alright/whatever/fine.

shroom_monk
The first online site I registered to was CW... and I thought: right, I need something original. Hmm... what do I like? Mushrooms. What do I do with them, apart from eat. I practically worship them . Hmm... who or what worships something... A Monk!

Mushroom Monk! Nah, too many syllables
Shroom Monk. Yeah, that works.

And, for some mysterious reason, no-one has ever used it anywhere else (bar one friend who registered to some RPG game with it, and that WikiPedia account that someone created, and then used to insult the admins...).

Jayenkai
You all know my story by now.. A silly little Star Trek game made between me and a friend, under the 3 letter "J'n'K" name.
I liked the way JNK sounded, so I stuck with it.
Jayenkai is just the same thing, but with more letters, and less Llama Farming.

I'm as scruffy as a Hobo, hence that is my nickname on-screen and off-screen.

blanko1324
Way back in middle school, friends finally convinced me to get an AIM screen name. I chose "Blanko", because it was a nickname given to me by my 5th grade teacher. My last name is Sheets, so:

Sheets > bed sheets > blankets > blanko

It has nothing to do with the color white! The "1324" was put on simply because everyone was using numbers back then, and it was cooler than just "1234". I still have the same AIM account, but recently, on new websites, I've been leaving off the numbers.

Nolan
When I was originally making a screen name for AIM, I had no idea what to choose. I looked up on the wall of where the computer was, and there was a painting by an Emile Torrente, from Bordeaux. Hence my former nick of Torrente, and my AIM screen name which some of you undoubtedly know.

As for Nolan, that's just my name.

Phoenix
I was playing Heroes III as Conflux. The team's best unit was the phoenix, and when I registered to websites later on I used that name for no specific reason. Today, I haven't bothered changing. I probably should though; the name is very boring.

I used to use Diablo loads in FF8. He is one of the best summons (especially early on) because his damage is percentage based. But loads of people use Diablos as their username, so I added the devil part and I've never found anyone who's taken it.

That second reason is vital because sometimes I'll come to a forum and think 'have I been here before?' As I can guarantee I will always use the same username I can then try to log in and often it's successful.

Forklift_Fred
Ah, now I feel a little out of place... not even remotely computer related...

Actually, it is in a way... The chap you see in the flat cap is Fred. I created him as part of my animation degree (that lead me nowhere. Don't ask. I've moved on. Leave it) In the style of Postman Pat he was simply a name that came up in conversation in the first year but after a summer job in a warehouse became the subject of my final film at the end of the course. Annoyingly compared to Bob The Builder which was released around the time I was working on it, not least of all thanks to the title/logo.

It was a name I was still connect to when I started coding and joined BlitzCoder so it was an obvious choice.

I have since become Forklift Fred working in a warehouse and driving forklifts so the name has kind of stuck there too...

Unfortunately there is already a company call with the name at forkliftfred.com but my somewhat abandoned project can still be seen at https://forkliftfred.tripod.com/

Oh and do I get brownie points for pronouncing Jayenkai right?

hyruleknight
well i like the zelda games and i like med-evil stuff especially knights

now a days i try to get cloned as my SN and sometimes i use zell1426

the story behind cloned is that i could never come up with a good original name and always had numbers at the end so i picked cloned as a joke. then zell came when i was re-arrange letters in my name and got "neil" but i changed the n to a z and then the i to a l

my cousin had picked zekk and then we found out which names we used and decided to keep them for video games so we can have silly jokes about the duo Zekk and Zell

Yo! Wazzup?
Mine... Ummm... I couldn't think of one for the Blitz fourms, and now it's Yo! Wazzup?. Then I did it for SyntaxBomb then for here. I would've done it for Wikipedia, but there was already soeone called "Yo, Wazzup?" and it was too simalar, and then I named it SyntaxBlitz. But now that I know of SoCoder, I will now do either Yo! Wazzup? or SoSyntaxBlitz

Hi everyone! I'm new to Blitz and only 10 years old so all things coding is gush to me

GoliX
My name comes from when I used to play an rts game called 'total annihilation' online, one of the toughest tanks in the game was called 'Goliath' so I used that as my name, I made friends with another guy called goliath, but he had a clan tag before his name. After playing alot and becoming friends he offered me a place in his clan, but I had to change my name(obviously ), so I thought

Goliath

Goli<- people there used to call me that for short

Golix<-a nice random x on the end

and have stuck with it ever since.

Afr0
Afr0 is a shorthand version of Afr0m@n that I switched to mainly because Afr0m@n became a bit lame, and alot of people had already taken the name on the net. Afr0m@n itself comes from the name of the artist who performs the song 'Because I got hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh!'

View on YouTube

@Steve Ancell: I hope you don't take this personally, but I've sometimes noticed that I spell better than you and other people on this site. What's up with that? I'm guessing you are a native UKer? Is it just the fact that I am very conscious of my spelling, or am I unconsciously a very good speller?
