Socoder -> -> SoCode-A-Thon

The SoCode-A-Thon is tonight at 19:00 (Server Time). I am pretty sure it will be hosted here.

https://www.scat.co.nr

So far I have Ajax integrated and file uploading now works. It should be bug free. The site runs smoothly. You can upload any file type and up to 10MB.

So get really to code tonight!

Here is a recent screen shot:

(Although the site is a work in progress and this screen shot is probably going to be outdated by the time you see it.)

The turnout was great. A thanks goes out to everyone who was there. The site some minor login bugs but they will be fixed. Expect more features when the site reopens next Friday!

Thank you...

You can't let some people get you down. Learned this many times. And shroom, I think its Standard Time.

If GMT = Standard Time, then it should be 18:05 now. Is that what the server time is?

I guess not. I don't know what time zone its in.

gmdate() works identically to php's date() function, but makes everything GM time.

I dunno if that info is of any use to you.

|edit|
Also, I think a capital "O" in the date function tells you how many hours different it is to GMT.

So is your site only open on Fridays? What if we want to code over a different night? I for one will be tonight.

Maybe you should improve on the site to try to aim to fill this specific niche. For coders who are working on a project as they are on the site. Not one as a general forum, but for coding then and there. One suggestion could be some form of interactive code pad between people. That'd be a great idea.

i like DD's idea.

Well we can talk about times.. Just let me know what your interested in. And that would be a good idea to have a interactive IDE type thing. Its practical too. I'll look in to more coder specific features. I think I fixed the login issue.

Maybe a work log too, but the idea I was having is rather then a programming site, a 'I am programming now' site. Maybe then if you expanded it, it would also be best not to have a forum since the idea is not about viewing it during a small 5 minutes but when you are actually coding there and then.

Yeah, for a forum, you have this site, and Devcrunch if need be.
The whole point of SoCode-a-thon is that everyone gets together at a predetermined time to sit and code together.
But I think a constantly open site would at least be workable.
Although, it does take away slightly, from the "Set Time, All Together" aspect that it's aiming for.

I'm sure you can sort something out, stealth.. Perhaps have a half-opened site most of the time, with special extras being accessible only at the chosen Code-a-thon times?

<shrugs>

Keep at it, Stealth!

I see what you guys are saying.. I'll try and do my best to make this work. I like the idea of a always open site to use "when your coding". And maybe have times open where we plan on meeting. Possibly more features then too. At this moment there are not too many features but I will open the site for you guys to use.

Maybe a half open site would be better, and open it more at more times if it expands. If you had it open always it would look empty a lot of the time and so people would presume it's always empty. So maybe open at night would be best. The one thing I would ask is for it to open at night at GMT time and to shut morning US time, as this is farer to non US residents.

I see.. That sounds like a good idea. I'll work out some times and get back with you.
