Tonight's adventures. More Tetris Effect, and another bike ride.

It's hard to find good bike ride vids. Low-res vids spoil the illusion, whilst others are ruined by "head cam" placement.
If you add the camera to your head, then every time you look around, you move the camera.
That's a big no-no.
The best ones I've seen are mounted on some kind of stick, mounted to the bike.
Those work infinitely better.

As well as that, the browse section has some 3D videos from the SloMo guys. These aren't 360 vids, only stereoscopic 3D.
The effect works alright, but you lose the "in and out" head tracking, making everything a little sickness inducing... feeling rather queasy after a 9 minute video. Bleurgh.

The 360 vids don't "feel" 3D, so my head seems to be able to cope better with those. *shrugs*

Yeah the videos are pretty crappy.

I did read about a proper VR bike game... Not sure if it's any good though https://www.oculus.com/blog/exercise-around-the-world-vzfit-releases-on-the-quest-platform-today/

Yeah, there a number of "you wanna get fit? Subscribe, you fat bastard!" apps out there.

Wander is nice enough. It's a Google Street View VR thing, and it works well enough. You can even switch dates of the street view imagery, if they're have it.
My house can be either 2020 or 2008, for example. Neat!!

Quite static though. Not exactly a "wander"

My exercise regime is now a 10 minute VR cycle, followed by a 10 minute Beat Saber session.
Between the two, I've managed to lose about 4 pounds over the past 10 days. I'm breathing a little easier, and... my ECG is at least not freaking out.. it's mostly stable.. I'm very unfit!!!

But, yeah, I can definitely feel the improvement in my overall health.

Meanwhile, I think I might be glancing up too much in VR. Nights have been very "falling backwards" in my sleep, as I roll onto my back and the fluid drains into the hole. It's definitely more pronounced than it usually it.
Hmmm...

I've recently been watching some of AirPano's videos during my cycling. They're a teensy. It disorientating at first, but I've found the fact that I can look DOWN at things helps quite a bit.
Just imagine you've got ET on your bike's basket, and you'll be fine!

Nice to hear it's working for you mate! I get such a sweat on with BeatSaber. Been averaging about 800 cals burnt a day according to the Oculus Move app. Doesn't even feel like i'm doing exercise. It's actually fun!!!!

I'm slowly but surely moving up to Hard mode on Beat Saber. .. though with Obstacles still switched off, obviously.
It's quite tempting to glance side to side on that mode, though, so I expect if I attempt Expert, then it might be a step in the wrong direction.
Hard mode, so far..
Levels I've made it through without failing.. 1
Levels I've failed within the first minute. 3
D'oh.

I've also started on Synth Rider, and though it doesn't feel as energetic, it does at least have a much better selection of music!

Hey fella's, I was in Clermont-Ferrand the other week in France watching a concert, this in fact: World Of Hans Zimmer, excellent mind... Anyway, I did a 360 video of the Cathedral there, had a walk around, then inside... Absolutely beautiful... So, if anyone is interested, whack that in your headset (And even if you dont have a VR headset, you can still view it on the youTube app or browser page)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfBwNP0SakA

Enjoy!

Right, hope all is well, and everyone is safe and sound!

Gave some 360 videos on youtube a try recently with the PSVR. They were rather lovely, so I let Layla have a play around with some wholesome content on it, all lovely stuff.

Awaiting the racing wheel tonight to finish the VR set-up again... Ordered one through CEX last week only for it to turn up without a power cable that;s needed for calibration, force feedback and well.... steering. Time for the fun returns procedure.

I haven't tried racing, yet. Not sure how my head would cope with it..
@GeriatricGamer suggested I try Rez.. My only experience of Rez is on the Dreamcast, where the camera panned and tracked all over, since the "enemies" spawned from the full 360degree area.
I'm fairly certain that won't work too well in VR!!!

Wheel wheely works well, my skills at racing other people online with it however... need some work

Also need to get some screws to secure the foot pedals into the seat set-up, then we all good!

Thoroughly enjoyed racing in the VR despite the lil issues, feels like another world

Blah, blah, social.
Blah, blah, future.
Blah, blah, New Company Name thrown in at random

No new tech for now. Seems they're focusing on going one bigger.

... meanwhile, if you woke up late, this morning, and have had a particularly crappy queasy day in general, feeling fairly nauseous through the simple act of sitting coding... sticking the VR headset on is not a good idea.
Today's exercises have been abandoned!

I'm going to assume that was down to the current COVID issues, still.
Creating new hardware, right now, isn't exactly flowing all that well!

Maybe next year?

Only got about 3 songs into Beat Saber tonight..
It's hard to sit on edge of your bed, swinging your arms around like a crazed loon, when your cat decides to hop onto the bed and nestle up behind you...!

A) very unusual behaviour from Molly.. I think she's only been on my bed, maybe 3 or 4 times, ever!!
and B) .. she apparently only likes me when I can't see her!

Might not help if she is going behind you, but Oculus (Meta?) latest update includes "Space Sense": https://youtu.be/LRXwXnQFIK8?t=143

I've been playing RE4 in VR and it's pretty cool! Wished they made the cut scenes in VR instead of a large screen, but for an old game it's great in VR!

Had to Google that one.
Apparently they're still big across most of Europe. Who knew..

Woolworths exists in other worlds too. Here it's just a website nowadays, but retail premises still exist elsewhere. Same as Toys'R'Us - they still exist in Canada.
