So why on earth does running out of polls trigger the birthday loop?

The birthday posts are made by the poll script. Whenever the server hits 00:00, it deletes today's poll. It then searches the poll bag for the next poll, posts any birthday messages, then pops up the new poll. If no polls exist in the poll bag, it'll repeat this over and over, every time someone requests the poll. It's a bit daft, and shouldn't really happen that easily, but fuck it! It wouldn't be Socoder without the bugs

You sound like the mactards at work!! Its perfectly fine and very fast, even impressed an Apple fanboy. comparing it to the ipad mini is like comparing Cheddar with Feta, both cheeses but totally different products.
